Has Fergie gone mad?

Posted by Sharath Ciddu on July 19, 2007

Just days after Fergie has done a fantastic piece of business, it looks like the old man has lost some sense. We love Fergie , absolutely love him, but statements like these drive us insane.

“We have had offers for Giuseppe, which puts us in a bit of a situation, while the quandary with Alan surrounds his long-term future and getting regular games.

There is no doubt Alan did fantastically well for us when he came back last season.

He gave the team a spiritual lift and because he is such a fighter, he was an inspiration to us. But he is 26 now and he wants regular football.

I have to look at Manchester United in terms of how do we improve to get better. And when someone like Tevez comes along, it makes it difficult for people like Alan and Giuseppe in particular.

The most important thing is that they are our players and we can make decisions when we like.”

It is great if Tevez arrives. The squad would have Rooney, Tevez, Saha, Ole, Smith, Rossi and Dong as the strikers. We should recognise that Saha won’t be around for half of the year considering his fragile frame, nor does Ole’s weary legs allow him to complete a full game or play more than one game a week. Dong is inexperienced which makes me count all these three as one good fit striker. So United would be left with five strikers. It makes sense to sell one striker if he generates a good value and it has to be Smith and not Rossi. Smith for all his combative instincts isn’t a player who can change a game on his own. Rossi is being touted as the next big thing and it would be a crime to sell him without giving him a fair chance.

If United sell both, we might be in big trouble if one of Rooney or Tevez gets injured. All the big teams have four good strikers. So Fergie, please don’t sell my Joe Red.  What do you guys think? Should both be sold if they generate around 12 million combined?

Shoot it like Wayne

Posted by Sharath Ciddu on July 4, 2007

The 21 year old Red Devil who has just switched to the jersey number 10 and would lead the attack has said about his hunger for more success. In his own words

“It’s just not just about winning the odd trophy. It’s about winning them all the time. The [current] players know their role in keeping up the club’s amazing history and success. Players in the past have set the standard: now we’ve got to carry it on.”

Well if you can shoot as accurately as in the video, we are sure you will win them all Wayne. Best of luck!!

One drama remains!!!

Posted by Sharath Ciddu on July 2, 2007

The United faithful need not have any sleepless nights having scary dreams where Anderson would not come to Old Trafford next season due to lack or workpermit or one of Nani/Anderson being kidnapped and threatened to sign for some rival. Today Manchester United has officially announced the signings of Anderson, Nani and Kuszczack. They have penned 5 year deals and it is a relief that these signings are completed without any big drama. Nani’s signing was never a doubt as he is an European, but the Brasilian’s work permit was first rejected. But United successfully appealed that he is an extraordinary talent.

United have secured the keeper, brought a high quality backup for the ageing EVDS in the form of Ben Foster. Pique and Evans step in as highly promising defenders to add another layer of concrete to the rock hard defensive wall. Even if the rock is ruptured away in the form of injuries, there is still this concrete wall to be beaten. So hopefully we wont falter in the games like against Milan anymore. Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves add goals, pace, flair and hard tackling ability to the already superb midfield. But one thing remains.. a striker!!

United have Rooney, Rossi, Saha, Smith, Solkjaer and Dong. But with Solkjaer and Dong expected to be peripheral, Saha fragile, Rossi inexperienced (is he?), Smith not upto the level expected… this is the only area where activity is expected And expect it to be finished with some drama.

How would the striker hunt end?

Posted by Sharath Ciddu on June 30, 2007

Ever since David Gill has announced that United is looking out for a striker, a host of strikers have been linked to United. If United has to get another striker they most probably would sell Smith. We love his never dying attitude and he tries to give everything for the team, but unfortunately he doesn’t have enough quality to come off the bench and change a game. If United gets another striker and doesn’t sell Smith, it would be very harsh on Rossi who could well very be the next world class striker. Departures later, lets analyze the arrivals for now.

Lets have a look at some of the names that are linked to United and what they bring to the team

Send Dong on loan

Posted by Sharath Ciddu on June 24, 2007

Dong Fangzhou – A player who sacrificed two and a half years before he could get a work permit and play in England. Everyone knows that his signing is a stunt by United to capture the Chinese market. Many fans dont want him to play for United. The site understands that. Part of that is because no one have ever seen how he played for Royal Antwerp. The following video illustrates that he is decently athletic and has a decent shot. He should be loaned to some premiership club or championship club to see how he can really fare. Loaning out in England has helped with Foster, Evans, Bardsley and Simpson. He might be moulded into a decent striker who when returns to United can sit on the bench whenever required, play in the cups and otherwise help the reserves, only with more confidence.
