Paul Scholes – The Ginger Ninja

He scores ’em Lord, Paul “Ginger Ninja” Scholes scores ’em

Posted by Sharath Ciddu on June 26, 2007

The shy man of the Red Devils is one of the most gifted players ever to grace the premiership. He is a mathematician who is always in control and pinpoint accurate with his passing. Part of the famous FA Youth Cup winners of 1992, he made his League debut against Ipswich Town on September 24, 1994, scoring twice in a 3-2 defeat. Scholes became a regular player during the 1994/95 term as Alex Ferguson blooded his ‘fledglings’ as United made a failed bid for the Double. Although he started his career as a striker, the attacking midfield position is what he has been the best at.

Neat and compact, a misplaced Scholes pass remains one of the rarest sights in football. His superb eye for goal and late runs from midfield makes him one of the best midfielders ever to wear the United jersey. Ever since his debut, he has been an integral part of the team, with the 99 season remaining a highlight. During the 05-06 season he couldnt play due to blurred vision and the team missed him a lot.

The 06-07 campaign, fresh after his return from injury has been nothing short of sensational. He marked his 500th appearance with a goal against Liverpool. A nominee for the PFA player of the year and a member of the PFA Team of the year, “The Ginger Prince” has played a integral part of the team that won the championship. Whether it was “that” volley against Villa, or those audacious goals against Newcastle and Blackburn, or the breathtaking flick against Milan which led to the Rooney goal, Scholesy has been there and done that all. The signings of Anderson and Owen Hargreaves to strengthen the midfield should give some needed rest to the wearing legs of Scholesy. Players come and go, but there’s only one Scholesy!!

No wonder McLaren begs him to play for England as the overrated, pass spraying Fat Blue is neither able to pass, nor score goals his trademark deflected goals (Looks like no one is deflecting them in).
